This is the second edition of the Nestwell Newsletter! With 2021 quickly wrapping up, and with NSW opening up again, the project team thought it was time to update our subscribers on what’s new with Nestwell and what we have been doing to help ’Just-a-Roof Women’ as well as build our network of service providers and hosts.

Stories so far

We have now created a network of service providers, private rental hosts, and others who have the capacity to help the system. This is an ever growing process and we are so thankful to those who have already allowed us to start a conversation with them about Nestwell.

Through this network, the project team has begun aiding in the housing process of a number of ‘Just-a-Roof Women’. These women have managed to secure a short-term safe space by tapping into under-utilised supply of Airbnb listings and student accommodation.

We are also now in the process of partnering with Hosts outside of Airbnb, and facilitating a connection between this supply and ‘Just-a-Roof Women’. Contact Nestwell if you know someone who has a spare room they are willing to rent out for the project,

Spotlight

Hosts Lee* and Anne* have an upstairs granny flat with two fully furnished rooms available for short and long-term rental in Blacktown. Suitable for two single ‘Just-a-Roof Women’ open to co-living. Contact Nestwell if you know of someone who might be suitable. You can also view the property here.

Testers needed

Nestwell will be launching a prototype app early next year, and testing it with hosts and service providers. Book in for a presentation here.

Outcome of the Vogue Code Future Innovators Award

In September this year the project team submitted a pitch to the Vogue and Optus’ Future Innovators competition. This is a grant that aims to seek and support new ideas and concepts from young entrepreneurs. In October we were selected as one of the 5 finalists of the competition and invited to deliver an extended pitch to the panel of judges. Although we did not win the award, we have so enjoyed this experience with Vogue and Optus. Read more about Nestwell in the December issue of Vogue!
